About RachelI believe we are wired for connection. Closeness to another person that we care about and we know cares about us is a natural buffer for the inevitable hurts and struggles of life. Knowing that we come first with another human being can actually lower our stress response to the painful things in life, both emotionally and physically. It is healthy and natural for us to rely on others for comfort, security and emotional safety. When we feel we cannot reach the significant others in our lives, we either protest the lack of connection or try to numb out our need for it altogether. This happens between couples, parents and children, siblings, and close friends. It is not weakness to need others or to depend on them. Learning to effectively express our emotions and needs to another is healthy dependence. We are not meant to be alone in this life.

From time to time, however, we feel alone and we are unsure how to reach for others and get the support we need as we face difficult struggles. Or perhaps we have a lot of support in our life but we still find it difficult to get the answers or direction we need to deal with our present issues. When you come to therapy, I can be a person of support to you during these difficult times as we work together to tackle the problems you are facing. Together we will also identify the support people you already have in your life or those you can reach out to. This support network will be what continues to carry you during and past the time therapy is over.
I am constantly amazed by the endurance and strength of the human spirit. I believe people already have the answer to their problems, even if it does not seem clear at the time. My role as a therapist is to help individuals, couples and families identify and uncover the solutions you already know and to help you take those steps towards change. I am here to help you see your strengths and at times share practical information you may not be aware of yet in regards to some of the challenges you may be facing.
I believe it is a sacred privilege to be a witness to your story and to have you share these things so close to your heart.
